Taipei is subdivided into two municipal regions: Taipei City and New Taipei City. Taipei City is located in the center of the New Taipei City and it is relatively more densly populated compared to Taipei City. Zhongshan district is also a very popular place for expats to live in. Zhongshan is conveniently located near the city center which includes the Taipei Main Station (MRT, TRA, THSR) and small parks such as Meiti Riverside Park and Yingfeng Riverside Park. The Zhongshan district is especially popular among the Japanese community because of its proximity to major transport hubs.
New Taipei area also offers a lot of communities to live in; districts such as Jhonghe and Yonghe are very close to MRT and THSR stations. Since they are located outside the Taipei City municipal, they are less expensive to live in and are not as densly packed as the city center. The commute time between these regions and the Taipei City take only extra 10-15 minutes and the extra transportation costs on the MRT system is marginally small (NT$10-20), which makes them very attractive options.
